My external drive i store my photography on died and the insurance company is paying for its replacement. This time however i am thinking something with one drive instead of 2 stripped. The stripping is what made it impossible for me to get it back. So I am thinking about buying an internal 1.5 terabite drive and putting it in an external enclosure. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Have you considered a Drobo? I have heard very good things about them.

I have but its out of my price range... I am looking for something like 280-300 out the door. I know I am cheap but this is not professional its for personal use. When and If I start doing professional work it will be straight to a drobo.

Check out Metal Gear Box at Newegg. One major problem with a lot of externals is thier fan goes out and it overheats and fails. The Metal Gear Box has no fan, it disperses the heat though the case itself. You can put just about whatever hard drive in it you want.

I just backup to two different drives. Drives are cheap. I also post my favorites to SmugMug full size. Like they say, is isn't IF a drive will fail, it's WHEN.

Maybe I should ask a more specific question. I am thinking about maybe getting network storage. Anyone have experience with one. That or maybe just go portable with like a wd passport suite.

I have a WD Passport Elite, it works great for me. The first time it took a while to backup everything. The drive isn't fast but I just use it as a backup device.

I'm using a WD My Book. Once you setup the folders you want backed up it backs up anything put in those folders automatically.
