I dropped by Canon 28-135mm 3.5 IS lens today and now it won't auto or manual focus. Is there a local reputable place you would recommend or do I need to send it to Canon?

I would send it in to Canon. Is it still under warranty?

I had to send one of my Canon lenses in a couple years ago and it really didn't take a terribly long time (compared to some situations I've heard about).

Yep, I have to mail it to them. It was the kit lens for my 40D I bought 11 months ago so hopefully it won't cost me anything to repair. Of course, I DID drop it so I don't know! Confused

If they are like Nikon, they won't pay to repair a dropped lens, and in most cases they can tell it if was dropped. As most people who know me know, I have dropped a lot of equipment over the years so I am pretty familiar with Nikon's repair policies. Don't know about Canon but I assume they are the same.

I hate to be a naysayer, but I would be surprised if they would repair it for less than the cost of a new lens. Could be wrong, tho.

We can always hope. Maybe it's time for an upgrade.
